What is sustainable development?
In sustainable development, the natural environment is its foundation, the tool is economy, and the well-being of society is a goal.
The definition of sustainable development according to the Act of 27 April 2001 on Environmental Protection Law (Journal of Laws of 2017, item 519) is a socio-economic development in which the process of integrating political, economic and social activities takes place, with maintaining the natural balance and durability of basic natural processes, in order to guarantee the possibility of satisfying the basic needs of particular communities or citizens of both the modern generation and future generations.
In Poland, the principle of sustainable development gained a constitutional rank - it was enshrined in art. 5 of the Constitution of the Republic of Poland of April 2, 1997 (Journal of Laws of 1997 No. 78, item 483), which states that the Republic of Poland ensures environmental protection, guided by the principle of sustainable development.
